Works on the tram terminus in Mistrzejowice are entering the next stage

Works on the tram terminus in Mistrzejowice are entering the next stage. On Tuesday, August 20, the assembly of prefabricated track slabs will begin.

The use of ERS technology, i.e. a system of fastening the rail in the lagging, will allow for the creation of a durable track surface. This solution ensures the reduction of vibrations and noise generated by passing trams, which will ensure the comfort of life of the inhabitants of the surrounding areas. This is one of the ways to build modern tracks – we will inform you about others as the work progresses.

Safety is a priority.

Due to numerous unexploded ordnance found at the construction site of the tram terminus in Mistrzejowice, sapper teams are still watching over the work. During earthworks, specialists inspect each layer of soil during excavation. For the sake of the safety of residents and construction workers, this process must be carried out as accurately as possible. Therefore, although this has an impact on the pace of implementation, such strict safety measures are crucial for the successful completion of the investment.

From last week

During the progress of works as part of the KST IV Tram to Mistrzejowice investment, the old transformer station disappeared from the landscape of Dobrego Pasterza Street last week. And during the long weekend, the residents of 4-6 Meissnera Street could already enjoy the partially commissioned parking lot. Work in this area will soon be completed in its entirety. Residents of 4-6 Meissnera Street can still use the available parking lot on Pilotów Street.

Summary of work in July

According to statistics, July is the rainiest month of the year. Despite heavy rainfall, our work progressed continuously. What has been achieved and what awaits us in the near future?

July was mainly marked by works related to the reconstruction of broadly understood networks. At the beginning of the month, we started heating up the heating pipes near the Wieczysta Sports Club. This involved the continuous operation of the generator. This was required by technological processes to ensure the highest possible quality of workmanship and safety of operation.

Works related to the heat pipeline were also undertaken at Łąkowa Street, Janickiego Street and the western part of Meissnera Street. Although the works in this area were planned for a later date, we decided to start them now to complete the works related to the heating network before the heating season. The decision was made out of concern for the comfort of the residents.More

At the same time, the reconstruction of the power grid at Dobrego Pasterza Street began and the rainwater drainage system at Jancarza Street was reconnected.More

On July 25, a meeting was held as part of the social dialogue, where residents, city and district councillors as well as ZDMK, MIR, ZTP together with the Private Partner could undertake a substantive discussion, m.in. on the fire exit, located in the area of blocks of flats at 4-6 Meissnera Street. A request was made to liquidate the bus bay on Mogilska Street and widen the tram platform. A postulate was made to change the lane into parking spaces on Meissnera Street on the section from Łąkowa Street to Ugorek Street.

Thanks to the commitment of all parties, we strive to create optimal solutions together!More

However – in the context of the progress of construction works – the greatest success of this month was the completion of concreting of ceilings at the Polsadu Roundabout station and under the flyover on the southern side – from Młyńska Street. This is another complicated technical challenge during the construction of the tram line to Mistrzejowice. Due to the limited space for construction machinery, the work required a very high degree of precision. In addition to engineers, the safety of the facility was supervised by a special geodetic monitoring system. It is a set of several dozen measuring devices that checked the condition of the object with an accuracy of 0.1 mm for 24 hours, in real time. At the same time, due to the summer heat, most of the concrete works, which lasted more than 5 hours, took place at night.

To the north of the flyover, insulation works of the floor slab are underway, which will enable the restoration of the original roadway layout and the commencement of the sinking of diaphragm walls in the place of the temporary roadway and pedestrian crossing. This will make it possible to connect the existing tunnel sections. The methodology of staging works is crucial in dense urban development, allowing for efficient project implementation and minimizing nuisance to residents.

July brought significant progress in the work on the city’s infrastructure. Significant works were completed on the reconstruction of the heating and power network, as well as the concreting of the ceilings on the southern side of the Polsadu Roundabout station, which was a key stage in the construction of the tram line to Mistrzejowice.  Cooperation with residents and various institutions allows for continuous adaptation of plans to the needs of the community, while maintaining high quality and safety of the implemented projects.

The ceiling is already under the flyover!

Works on the construction of the ceiling of the “Tram to Mistrzejowice” tunnel at Polsadu Roundabout are entering the next stage. A team of engineers from Gülermak, the general contractor of the tram line, has completed the construction of the ceiling in the area of Młyńska Street and under the flyover of the bypass.

July on the construction site of the “Tram to Mistrzejowice” project marked the completion of concreting three sections of roof slabs under the viaduct, directly adjacent to its foundations and supports. Moving the work to the northern edge of Polsadu Roundabout is the next phase within the KST IV investment.

Earlier, in May and June, intense work took place at Młyński Roundabout, where the roof slab above the tunnel exit was completed, enabling the final channeling of the Sudoł Dominikański stream.

“As the Municipality, we cooperate with our Private Partner to ensure the project progresses as quickly as possible and to respond to all signals coming from residents. I am pleased that during construction meetings with the participation of residents’ representatives, we can create a space to exchange information about the progress and expectations of the locals. Thanks to this, the project evolves according to the expectations of Krakow’s residents, while construction moves forward, as best demonstrated by the progress in tunnel construction,” said Stanisław Kracik, Deputy Mayor of Krakow.

This is yet another complex technical challenge in the realization of the tram line to Mistrzejowice. Due to the limited space available for construction machinery, the work required great precision. Throughout the project, traffic over the viaduct had to continue without interruptions. In addition to engineers, a special geodetic monitoring system ensured the safety of the structure. This system, consisting of dozens of measurement devices, monitored the state of the viaduct in real time with an accuracy of 0.1 mm, 24 hours a day. Additionally, due to summer heat, most concreting works lasting over 5 hours were carried out at night.

“We have embedded nearly 3,000 cubic meters of structural concrete into the roof slabs. These structures, though temporarily covered, will soon give way to a new roadway and its accompanying infrastructure,” emphasized Krzysztof Dziobek, Contract Director from Gülermak.

Currently, on the southern part of Polsadu Roundabout, the final geometry of the underground station is visible. The top-down construction method used here involves excavating material from beneath the concreted roof slab once it has reached the necessary strength. Although this process is time-consuming, thanks to the involvement of appropriate equipment and coordination, the excavation rate reached several hundred cubic meters per day by the end of June.

North of the viaduct, waterproofing work on the roof slab is underway, which will allow for the restoration of the original road layout and the beginning of trench wall excavation at the site of the temporary road and pedestrian crossing. This will make it possible to connect the existing tunnel sections. The phased methodology of the work is crucial in the dense urban environment, allowing the project to proceed smoothly while minimizing inconvenience for residents.

Cooperation and substantive discussion in progress

The implementation of the KST4 investment involves many complex activities that require careful analysis and compliance with regulations. During yesterday’s meeting with representatives of residents, we discussed the procedures and stages of formalization of arrangements.

Participants: ZDMK, ZTP, MIR, councillors, representatives of SM Ugorek and the Private Partner undertook a dialogue in order to sort out topics concerning, m.in, the fire exit located in the area of blocks of flats at 4-6 Meissnera Street. The Kraków Municipal Road Authority, as the road administrator, undertook to issue an order for the change by the end of July, indicating the introduction of the expected, specific solutions, so that the designer could carry out all analyses by the end of August, and then include them in the design documentation and efficiently process them in accordance with the declarations of the Public Entity.

It was requested to liquidate the bus bay on Mogilska Street and leave the possibility of stopping the bus on the lane, as well as to narrow the lanes of Mogilska Street and Aleja Jana Pawła II within the intersection with the need to verify the width of the right-turn lane.

A postulate was made to change the lane into parking spaces on Meissnera Street on the section from Łąkowa Street to Ugorek Street, i.e. as it currently functions.

Thanks to the commitment of all parties, we jointly strive to improve the infrastructure of our city and create optimal solutions!
